New National Building Regulation
The amendments to the national building regulations were released on the 9/9/2011. Amongst other things, it states; "Buildings, and extensions to building shall be designed and constructed so that they [have] at least 50% (volume fraction) of the annual average hot water heating requirement shall be provided by means other than electrical resistance heating including but not limited to solar heating, heat pumps, heat recovery from other systems or processes and renewable combustible fuel."

Shisa Solar Launches

The eThekwini Municipality officially launched the Shisa Solar programme at Imbaliyethu Primary school in Welbedacht on Friday, 25 March 2011.

 

The project was launched by the Minister of Energy, Ms Dipou Peters who was accompanied by her Deputy, Barbara Thomson, Deputy Mayor, Councillor Logie Naidoo and other officials from all spheres of government.

 

 “The solar heaters reduce the over-reliance on electricity. We need to educate the public about saving electricity in order to mitigate the effect of climate change, said Peters.
